Fourteen days in Bali costs roughly $420 to $840 per person on the ground on a budget and $1,100 to $2,200 mid-range, plus the flight and about $40 in entry charges (the e-VOA and the Bali tourist levy). From Australia the flight is short and often cheaper than a week of mid-range spending; from the US or UK it is usually the biggest line. Where you sleep matters more than anything else: Seminyak and Canggu sit at the top of every band, while Ubud, Munduk and Sidemen are much cheaper. These figures match our daily travel budget by country table (about $30 to $60 a day budget, $80 to $160 mid-range) and are typical 2026 ranges, not what we spent. We spent 18 days in Bali in May and June 2023: Seminyak, Munduk, Ubud, Kintamani, Sidemen and Padangbai, with a side trip to Banyuwangi and Mount Ijen in Java.

• Budget (about $30 to $60 a day): roughly $300 to $600 for 10 days, $420 to $840 for 14. Homestays and guesthouses in Ubud and the hills, warungs for most meals, scooter or shared drivers, a few temple fees.
• Mid-range (about $80 to $160 a day): roughly $800 to $1,600 for 10 days, $1,100 to $2,200 for 14. Villas with pools outside the south, a private driver on transfer days, a few cafe meals and beach-club afternoons, one or two tours such as Mount Batur or snorkelling.
• Comfort: about $2,200 and up for two weeks, where south Bali resorts, spa days and boat trips to Nusa Penida land.
Two people sharing a villa pay far less than double: the room and the driver are the big lines and both are priced per unit, not per person.

Bali is Australia's short-haul holiday. Cheapflights' 2026 listings show Sydney to Denpasar returns from about A$400 to A$600, with averages closer to A$500 to A$800, and Skyscanner flags June as typically the cheapest month. Australian school holidays push fares up.
From the US and UK there is no nonstop, so you connect through a hub such as Singapore, Doha or Tokyo, and the fare is typically the largest single cost of the trip. A cheap way in is often a budget hop from Singapore; see Singapore to Bali on a budget flight. Fares rose across the board in 2026 on fuel costs: why flights are so expensive and how to find cheap flights.
• e-VOA: most visitors, including US, UK and Australian passport holders, pay IDR 500,000 (about $30) for a 30-day visa on arrival, extendable once for another 30 days. Apply online on the official Indonesian immigration site before you fly to skip the airport queue; details in Indonesia e-VOA how to apply.
• Bali tourist levy: a separate IDR 150,000 (about $10) per person, collected by the Bali provincial government since February 2024 and paid through the official Love Bali portal. Both are covered in the Bali tourist tax and arrival process.
• Arrival card: the All Indonesia arrival card is free; ignore sites that charge for it.
• Nyepi: the airport closes for the Day of Silence each year; check Nyepi 2027 before you set dates.

• Rooms: this is where Bali's range is widest. A homestay in Sidemen or Munduk costs a fraction of a pool villa in Seminyak or Canggu. Where to stay in Ubud compares the areas around the most useful base.
• Food: local warungs serving nasi campur and mie goreng are cheap; Western cafes and beach clubs cost several times more for a meal. See what to eat in Bali, and how to avoid Bali belly, since a sick day is a wasted day.
• Drivers: there are no useful trains and few buses for visitors, so transport is a real line. 2026 guides put a full-day private driver at roughly IDR 600,000 to 1,000,000 (about $37 to $62) per car, not per person, usually plus tolls and parking. Shared between two or three people on transfer days, it is the best-value way to move between regions.
• Scooters: cheaper per day, but read Bali scooter rules and police checkpoints first: riding without a valid licence can void insurance and leads to fines.
Temple entry fees are modest and many include a sarong; read Bali temple etiquette. The Ubud Monkey Forest charges foreign adults around IDR 100,000 on weekdays and IDR 120,000 at weekends on 2026 listings, confirm on its own site. The bigger costs are guided Mount Batur sunrise hikes, boat days to Nusa Penida and spa treatments.
Hidden costs: ATM fees on foreign cards (see cash or card abroad), small parking charges at sights, and the per-trip cost of drivers if you stay in a remote homestay. Tipping norms are in tipping in Bali. Add data (an eSIM or local SIM, see eSIM or local SIM) and travel insurance, which matters more if you ride a scooter.

• Spend fewer nights in the south. Our own route put only 3 of 18 nights in Seminyak; Munduk, Ubud, Kintamani and Sidemen took most of the time. See our 18-day Bali route and the 10-day Bali itinerary.
• Move less. Each region change usually means a paid driver; three bases in two weeks is plenty. How many days in Bali helps size it.
• Avoid peak dates. July, August and late December are the dearest for rooms; best time to visit Bali covers the shoulder months.
• Compare honestly. Northern Thailand and Vietnam are usually cheaper per day; Bali vs Thailand weighs the trade-off.
