Visa & entryThe Bali eVisa is Indonesia's electronic Visa on Arrival (e-VOA), and the only official place to apply is evisa.imigrasi.go.id. It costs IDR 500,000 (about $30, plus a small card fee), allows a 30-day stay and can be extended once for another 30 days. US, UK, Canadian, Australian and EU passport holders are among the roughly 90 nationalities eligible. Apply at least 48 hours before you fly; the approved e-VOA arrives as a PDF by email, often within minutes, and is generally valid for entry within 90 days of issue. Here is the step-by-step, plus how it compares with the airport counter, the autogates, the All Indonesia arrival card and the Bali levy.

Indonesia's Visa on Arrival scheme covers all ASEAN and EU countries plus a list of other nationalities including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea. Published counts vary between about 87 and 97 countries depending on the date of the list, so check your nationality on the portal. Citizens of most ASEAN countries can enter visa-free for short stays instead.
The e-VOA is for tourism, visiting family, short business meetings and transit. It does not allow paid work. Our Indonesia and Bali visa guide covers the other visa types if you want to stay longer than 60 days.
• Fee: IDR 500,000 per person, the same as at the airport counter. Card payments add a small processing fee, so travelers typically see about IDR 519,500 charged.
• Stay: up to 30 days from the day you enter, counting your arrival day.
• Validity before entry: the e-VOA is single-entry and must generally be used within 90 days of issue. Check the dates printed on your PDF, since sources describe the window slightly differently.
• Extension: once, for another 30 days (60 days in total), for another IDR 500,000. You start the extension on the same portal before your 30 days run out, and immigration offices commonly require a short visit for photo and fingerprint verification. Procedures have changed more than once since 2025, so check the portal or the local immigration office (Kantor Imigrasi) a week or two before day 30.
• Overstay: IDR 1,000,000 per day, so don't let the 30 days lapse.
• Passport: at least six months of validity from your arrival date, plus proof of a return or onward ticket.
• Step 1: Go to evisa.imigrasi.go.id and choose the option to apply for a visa. Select your passport's country, then the purpose (tourism) and the Visa on Arrival / e-VOA (B1) option.
• Step 2: Upload a photo of your face (a recent color photo, roughly passport style) and a clear scan or photo of your passport bio page. Check the details the system reads from the passport, especially the passport number and expiry date.
• Step 3: Enter your arrival details and the address and postcode of your first night's accommodation. If the postcode is rejected, ask the hotel for the exact one.
• Step 4: Pay the IDR 500,000 by card. The card needs to support international transactions and 3D Secure verification.
• Step 5: Download the e-VOA PDF from the email or your account. Save it on your phone and keep a printed copy. Each traveler, including children, needs their own e-VOA.
The government recommends submitting at least 48 hours before departure. Approvals are often quick, but don't leave it to the gate: a typo in the passport number means paying for a new one.
You can still buy a Visa on Arrival at a counter at Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport and other major entry points, for the same IDR 500,000. The difference is time: counter buyers queue to pay, then queue again at immigration, which after a long-haul arrival can take an hour or more.
With an e-VOA and a biometric e-passport, most adult travelers can use the autogates at Bali and Jakarta, scanning the passport and face instead of seeing an officer. Children under a certain age (sources give 6 or older as the threshold) and people with older non-chip passports use the staffed desks. Indonesia had about 300 autogates running at major checkpoints by October 2026.
The e-VOA is only the visa. For Bali you also have two other online steps on different government sites:
• All Indonesia arrival card: free, mandatory for every arrival, filed at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id within 3 days before you land. It replaced the old e-CD customs form. See our All Indonesia Arrival Card guide.
• Bali tourist levy: IDR 150,000 per foreign tourist per trip, paid on the official Love Bali site (lovebali.baliprov.go.id) or at airport counters. It is not part of the visa.
A sensible order is e-VOA first, then the levy, then the arrival card in the final 72 hours. Our Bali tourist tax and Denpasar arrival guide walks through the terminal on landing day.
Search results for "Bali evisa" and "Indonesia visa application" are full of look-alike sites that charge $60 to $150 for the same IDR 500,000 e-VOA, or simply take the money. Indonesian government sites end in .go.id. If the address ends in .com, .org or anything else, it is an agent at best.
Agents are legitimate for complicated cases such as long-stay visas or extensions handled on your behalf, but the standard tourist e-VOA takes about 10 minutes to do yourself on the official portal.
evisa.imigrasi.go.id, run by Indonesia's immigration authority. Government sites end in .go.id; others are agents or scams.
IDR 500,000 (about $30) per person, plus a small card processing fee. The separate Bali tourist levy is IDR 150,000.
Apply at least 48 hours before departure. The e-VOA is generally valid for entry within 90 days of issue, so check the dates on your PDF if you apply well in advance.
Yes. US citizens are eligible for the e-VOA, which allows a 30-day stay extendable once by 30 days.
Yes, at a counter for the same IDR 500,000, but you queue twice. With an e-VOA and an e-passport, most adults can use the autogates instead.
You start the 30-day extension on the evisa.imigrasi.go.id portal before your stay expires, but immigration offices commonly require a visit for photo and fingerprint verification. Check the current procedure a week or two before day 30.
Entry rules change, and they depend on your nationality — always confirm the current requirements on the official government site before you book or apply. Only use official government (.gov) portals; ignore look-alike agency sites.
