Where to Stay for the 2027 Champions League Final in Madrid: Areas Ranked by Metro Time to the MetropolitanoDestinations & Itineraries

Where should I stay for the 2027 Champions League final in Madrid?

By · Published · Last updated

The 2027 UEFA Champions League final is on Saturday 5 June 2027 at the Estadio Metropolitano, Atlético de Madrid's ground in the north-east of the city, according to UEFA. For one night's stay, the best base is anywhere on Metro Line 7, which stops at the stadium: Salamanca and Chamberí give you the direct line plus a real neighbourhood to eat in; the old centre around Sol is livelier but needs a change. Book the nights of 4 and 5 June, and go refundable until you know your club is in it. We spent 4 days in Madrid from 27 June to 1 July 2022, the first stop of our Spain route, but not for a match, so the stadium logistics below come from UEFA and the club rather than a match day of our own.

The final: date, kick-off and venue

UEFA's 2026/27 season calendar puts the final on Saturday 5 June 2027 at the Estadio Metropolitano, with the usual note that dates are subject to change. UEFA's Executive Committee picked the Metropolitano in September 2025 after Milan's San Siro was withdrawn because the city could not guarantee that planned works would not affect the stadium. It will be Madrid's sixth Champions League or European Cup final, and the Metropolitano already hosted the 2019 final.

Kick-off: reports of UEFA's announcement say the 2027 final will start at 18:00 local time rather than the old 21:00, following the change made for the 2026 final in Budapest, to make getting to and from the stadium easier. UEFA's own final page did not list a time when we checked, so confirm it before you book trains or flights home. An 18:00 start in June means the game ends in daylight, and the crowd leaves at the same moment.

The stadium sells under the name Riyadh Air Metropolitano under the club's naming deal; UEFA calls it Estadio Metropolitano because sponsor names are dropped for its finals. They are the same building.

Tickets are sold through UEFA, with most of the allocation going to the two finalists' supporters. Do not book a non-refundable room before the semi-finals (4 and 5 May 2027 for the second legs) unless you are going regardless of who plays.

Getting to the Metropolitano

Metro Line 7 is the way in. Its Estadio Metropolitano station sits beside the stadium, and the next stop back towards the centre, Las Musas, is a slightly longer walk. Atlético de Madrid's visitor guidance also lists Las Rosas (Line 2) and Canillejas (Line 5) as alternatives, each about a 15-minute walk away. On a final day, using these alternatives is how you avoid the main station's queues.

Line 7 runs from Pitis in the north-west through Chamberí (Canal, Alonso Cano, Gregorio Marañón) and the Salamanca district (Avenida de América, Cartagena, Parque de las Avenidas) to Pueblo Nuevo, San Blas and Las Musas, then the stadium. The line splits at Estadio Metropolitano: trains towards Coslada and San Fernando (MetroEste) start there, so if you stay out east you change at the stadium station itself.

Several bus routes serve the stadium area, but the published line numbers differ between sources and season guides, so check the EMT or Metro de Madrid planner the week of the final. There is no reason to drive or take a taxi on the day: road closures around a UEFA final are standard, and taxis back are the scarcest thing in the city after the whistle.

From Madrid-Barajas airport, the stadium and the eastern districts are closer than the centre; the airport is on the same side of the city. If you are flying in and out the same weekend, that is an argument for staying east or in Salamanca rather than the old centre.

Where to stay, ranked by travel time to the stadium

1. San Blas-Canillejas, by the stadium. Walking distance to the ground from the Las Musas and Canillejas side. It is a residential district with a few business hotels and apartments, not somewhere you would choose for a city break. Price level: mid-range most of the year, but closest-to-the-stadium rooms are the first to sell out or jump on a final weekend. The catch: after the match you are close to bed but far from the centre's bars and restaurants.

2. Salamanca (Avenida de América, Cartagena). Direct on Line 7 with no change: from Avenida de América it is 10 stops to Estadio Metropolitano. Salamanca is Madrid's smart grid of shopping streets and apartment blocks, with good restaurants and quieter nights. Avenida de América is also a big interchange, with Lines 4, 6 and 9. Price level: mid to high. The catch: fewer cheap rooms and less late-night atmosphere than the centre.

3. Chamberí (Gregorio Marañón, Alonso Cano, Canal). Also direct on Line 7, a few stops further than Salamanca. Chamberí is a lived-in neighbourhood of tiled bars, markets and terraces, the most Madrid-feeling of the Line 7 options. Price level: mid-range. The catch: fewer hotels than the centre, so more apartments, and the ride is longer than from Salamanca.

4. Sol and Gran Vía. The centre of everything, with the most hotels and the most fans, and almost certainly where any official fan event will be (UEFA had not published fan-zone sites when we checked). The catch: no Line 7 here. You change once, for example at Gregorio Marañón or Avenida de América, which adds time and puts you on the busiest platforms at the busiest hour. Price level: mid to high, and the first area to fill on a final weekend.

5. Barrio de las Letras, La Latina and Malasaña. The best eating and drinking streets, close to the Prado and the Retiro for the days either side of the final. Same catch as Sol, one change at least. Our where to stay in Madrid guide compares these for a normal trip. Price level: mid-range.

If you are coming for a few days rather than one night, base yourself in the centre or Chamberí and accept the change on match day: the other days are what the centre is for, and our how many days in Madrid and Madrid guide plan them.

When to book and what it costs

We have no sourced figures on Madrid hotel prices for the 2027 final, so treat this as general advice. Final-weekend demand only becomes real once the finalists are known, which is after the semi-finals in early May. Fans of the two clubs then book within days. The safest pattern is to book a free-cancellation room now in an area you would be happy in anyway, then cancel or keep it after the semi-finals.

Early June is also Madrid's season for weddings, conferences and the start of summer tourism, so even a non-final weekend is not quiet. If prices spike, look at two nights instead of one: arriving Friday and leaving Sunday spreads you away from the Saturday-night and Sunday-morning crush at Barajas. Day trips to Toledo or Segovia (see day trips from Madrid) fill the spare day.

If you are flying in from outside Spain, check the entry rules in our Spain visa guide well before June; that is not something to discover at the airport on a final weekend.

Match-day logistics

• Leave early. With an 18:00 kick-off, plan to be at the stadium well before the gates' published opening time; UEFA finals have strict security and ticket checks.

• Use the other stations. Walking 15 minutes from Canillejas (Line 5) or Las Rosas (Line 2) is often faster than queuing at Estadio Metropolitano after the match.

• Eat before, not after. Madrid eats late, so the city will still be serving dinner after the final, but the restaurants near the stadium are few. A late lunch in Salamanca or the centre, then the metro out, works best. Our what to eat in Madrid list has the places in each area.

• Heat. June afternoons in Madrid can be hot. Carry water within the stadium's rules and a cap for the queue.

• Card or cash. Contactless cards work on the metro and almost everywhere else. See tipping in Spain for what to leave in bars.
