Las Fallas 2027 in Valencia: Dates, Mascletà Times and the CremàSeasonal travel

When is Las Fallas 2027 and how do you see it?

By · Published

Las Fallas 2027 runs at full strength from 15 to 19 March, ending with the Cremà on the night of Friday 19 March, when Valencia burns hundreds of giant monuments in its streets. The daily mascletà, a deafening daytime firework show in Plaza del Ayuntamiento at 2pm, runs from 1 March. The trade-off: those five days are the most expensive and crowded of Valencia's year, and the noise of firecrackers runs from morning until the early hours. In 2027 the Cremà falls two days before Palm Sunday, so you can follow Fallas straight into Semana Santa. We spent 4 days in Valencia in late July 2022, between Barcelona and Murcia, outside festival season.

Las Fallas 2027 key dates

• Late February (last Sunday): the Crida, the opening proclamation from the Torres de Serranos. Third-party guides disagree on the 2027 date and the city's official programme is not out yet, so confirm it in the new year.

• 1 to 19 March: the mascletà every day at 2pm in Plaza del Ayuntamiento, free.

• 15 March (Monday): the Plantà, when the fallas are finished and set up in their squares overnight. Judging follows the next day.

• 17 and 18 March: the Ofrenda, the flower offering, with falleros in traditional dress filling a giant figure of the Virgin in Plaza de la Virgen with carnations.

• Night of 18 March: the Nit del Foc, the biggest night firework display of the festival.

• 19 March (Friday, San José): the Cremà. Neighbourhood fallas burn from around 10pm, the prize-winning one later, and the one in Plaza del Ayuntamiento last, usually around 1am.

19 March is a public holiday in the Valencia region in 2027, and Good Friday (26 March) is also a holiday there. Holy Thursday is not a holiday in Valencia, unlike most of Spain. Exact times are published in the city's official programme in early 2027; treat the ones here as the typical pattern.

What the mascletà actually is

A mascletà is not a pretty firework display. It is a few minutes of rhythmic explosions, built up like a piece of music, that you feel in your chest. Thousands of people pack Plaza del Ayuntamiento and the surrounding streets from about 1pm. Children wear ear protection, and it is sensible for adults too.

For the 15 to 19 March mascletàs, arrive by 12:30 or watch from the streets around the square, such as Calle San Vicente or Avenida Marqués de Sotelo, where you hear it fully but can still leave. The square is fenced and access is closed when full. Keep valuables in a front pocket: the crush is real. Earlier in the month the mascletà is quieter and much easier to see.

Seeing the fallas themselves

There are several hundred fallas across the city, each built by a neighbourhood association, plus a smaller children's falla (falla infantil) beside each one. The biggest, in the Sección Especial, cost a lot of money and are 20 metres or more tall. They stand from the Plantà on 15 March until they burn on the 19th, so the 16th to the 18th is the window to see them all.

The densest clusters of large fallas are in Ruzafa, the old centre and around Calle Sueca and Plaza del Pilar. Walking a loop through Ruzafa in the evening also gets you the light displays some neighbourhoods put up. One ninot from each year is saved from the fire by public vote and goes to the Museo Fallero, which is worth a visit outside festival week too.

The Cremà night

At the Cremà, firefighters hose down nearby buildings and the falla is packed with fireworks, then lit. Crowds stand very close, the heat is intense, and ash falls on everyone. Pick one falla near you around 10pm to midnight, then head toward Plaza del Ayuntamiento if you want the finale, but you will not reach the front unless you arrive hours early. Streets around the big fallas are closed to traffic, and metro stations near the centre get very busy.

Hotels, transport and practical tips

Valencia's hotels price March 15 to 19 like a peak summer weekend, and central areas sell out months ahead. Book by December or January. Staying a little out, near the beach at El Cabanyal or in Benimaclet, is cheaper and quieter, with the metro and tram into the centre. Valencia airport is linked to the centre by metro lines 3 and 5.

Expect noise: petardos (firecrackers) go off all day across the city, including early-morning wake-up calls. Light sleepers should ask for an inner room. Streets close with little warning, so walk or use the metro rather than taxis.

If you can only spare two days, choose 18 and 19 March: the Ofrenda, a mascletà, the Nit del Foc and the Cremà, with the fallas still standing. If you want lower prices and still a taste of it, the first two weeks of March have the daily mascletà without the hotel peak. Combining Fallas with Semana Santa in 2027

In 2027 the calendar lines up unusually well: the Cremà on Friday 19 March, then Palm Sunday on the 21st. From Valencia, the high-speed train reaches Madrid in under two hours, and from Madrid it is about two and a half hours to Seville. That means you can see the Cremà, travel on the 20th, and be in Andalusia for the start of Holy Week. Book both legs early: trains around the holiday fill up.
