A 12-day trip to the Czech Republic costs roughly $540 to $900 per person on the ground on a budget and $1,200 to $1,740 mid-range, plus the flight. That is about $45 to $75 a day budget and $100 to $145 mid-range, the same bands as our daily travel budget by country. Prague accommodation drives the total; Pilsen, Brno and Kutna Hora are cheaper bases. We spent 17 days in the Czech Republic from 19 September to 6 October 2022: Prague, Hrensko, Karlovy Vary, Marianske Lazne, Pilsen, Kutna Hora and Brno, so the route below follows ground we covered. The country uses the koruna (about 21.7 CZK to the dollar in late October 2026) rather than the euro. The figures are typical 2026 prices from operators and travel-cost sources, not what we spent.

Daily bands are the same as our daily travel budget by country: $45 to $75 budget and $100 to $145 mid-range.
• Budget: about $540 to $900 on the ground, split roughly as accommodation $190 to $320; food and drink $160 to $270; getting around $80 to $140; sights and activities $60 to $110; extras (SIM, tips, fees) $40 to $70. Dorm beds, tram and metro passes, pub lunch menus and supermarket dinners.
• Mid-range: about $1,200 to $1,740 on the ground, split roughly as accommodation $540 to $780; food and drink $300 to $440; getting around $140 to $210; sights and activities $140 to $210; extras (SIM, tips, fees) $70 to $100. Central Prague hotels or apartments, restaurant dinners, a castle or two and a day trip by train.
• With a return flight from the US ($720 to $791 in our fare snapshot): budget about $1,250 to $1,700, mid-range about $1,900 to $2,550.
The category split is our own approximation of how a daily band divides, not a measured spend. Dorm beds in Prague ranged from roughly $9 to $26 a night in the guides behind our calculator, and sources disagree, so treat that as rough.

Our site's fare snapshot, taken from travellers' searches around 30 October 2026, shows Prague round trips averaging about $750 from the US (middle half $720 to $791), about $825 from Canada, and in Europe about $130 from the UK, $117 from Italy, $179 from Spain and $207 from Germany. The snapshot leans low because it records fares travellers actually found, so use it as a floor. Flying into Prague and out of Budapest on a one-way pair avoids doubling back; compare it in Prague vs Budapest and price the train in the Prague to Budapest guide.

Prague's centre has priced up, and the cheaper pattern is to sleep outside the Old Town and use the metro. Our where to stay in Prague compares areas. Outside the capital, Pilsen, Brno and Kutna Hora cost noticeably less for the same standard, and Karlovy Vary is moderate off season.
Check each town's rules for a small per-person city fee, which hosts usually collect; it is minor next to the room rate.

Prague's public transport is among the cheapest in Central Europe. A 90-minute PID ticket costs 46 CZK (≈ $2.1) in the Lítačka app or 50 CZK (≈ $2.3) on paper in 2026, a 24-hour ticket is 140 CZK (≈ $6.4) in the app and a 72-hour ticket 340 CZK (≈ $15.6). From the airport, trolleybus 59 plus metro is the cheap option on one ticket, while the Airport Express costs 200 CZK (≈ $9.2); see the Prague airport transfer guide.
Trains between cities are good value. A one-way ticket to Kutna Hora is around 166 CZK (≈ $7.6) as of 2026, per our Kutna Hora day trip guide. Also see Karlovy Vary from Prague.
If you hire a car, motorways need an e-vignette: CZK 230 for one day, CZK 300 for 10 days and CZK 480 for 30 days in 2026 on the official eDalnice site. The 10-day pass is only CZK 70 more than a day pass, so buy it for any multi-day drive; see the Czech e-vignette guide.
Czech food is hearty and cheap by Western standards. Lunch menus, supermarkets and pub dinners keep a budget day low; see what to eat in Prague and what to buy at a grocery store in the Czech Republic. For tipping, see tipping in Prague.
Paid sights are modest. The Sedlec Ossuary in Kutna Hora needs a timed ticket booked in advance at 220 CZK (≈ $10.1) for adults. Prague Castle has several ticket circuits, and sources disagree on the 2026 prices, so check the castle's own site rather than trust a blog. Many Prague pleasures, such as the Charles Bridge, Old Town Square and walking Vysehrad, are free. Watch for the usual tourist traps listed in tourist scams in Prague.
Insurance and data are small lines: price travel insurance against your total.

• Base outside the Old Town and ride the 24-hour or 72-hour ticket.
• Visit in shoulder months. Spring and autumn cost less than summer and December; see best time to visit Prague.
• Use the 10-day vignette only if you actually drive; otherwise trains cover Kutna Hora, Pilsen and Brno cheaply.
• Spread nights. Our own route used 5 nights in Prague and shorter stops in Pilsen, Kutna Hora, Brno and Karlovy Vary; the smaller towns are where the daily figure drops.
• Self-cater with supermarkets and lunch menus rather than Old Town restaurants.
