Where should I stay for MotoGP in Adelaide in 2027?

By · Published · Last updated

Stay in Adelaide's East End, around Rundle Street, for the shortest walk to the new street circuit in the eastern Park Lands; the CBD core around North Terrace and Victoria Square is the fallback, with far more rooms. The date is provisional: the 2027 MotoGP calendar published on 25 September 2026 puts the race on Sunday 14 November 2027, subject to homologation of the circuit. The organiser's site lists the weekend as 12 to 14 November. Because the circuit still has to be approved, we have left the hotel search dates open, and any room you book should be refundable. We were in Adelaide from 29 to 30 January 2023, so the details below come from MotoGP, the organiser and motorsport reports.

The date, and what provisional means here

MotoGP moves to Adelaide in 2027, replacing Phillip Island as the Australian round under a six-year deal to 2032. The organiser's site calls the event the MotoGP Red Bull Grand Prix of Australia. MotoGP describes it as the championship's first city-centre race.

Status: provisional. The FIM and MotoGP calendar of 25 September 2026 lists race day as Sunday 14 November 2027, subject to homologation, which is the safety approval of the finished circuit. The organiser's site, motogpadl.com.au, gives 12 to 14 November 2027 as a three-day event. Until the circuit is approved, the date could move, and we will treat it as provisional.

Circuit details also differ by source. MotoGP's February 2026 announcement gave 4.195 km and 18 turns, while the organiser's site gives 4.13 km and 15 corners and calls it a proposed design. Both describe a version of the old Adelaide Grand Prix layout.

Tickets

No prices or on-sale dates had been published when we checked. Pre-sale registration is open at motogpadl.com.au, covering general admission, grandstand and hospitality options. Speedcafe reported that tickets were likely to go on sale in late 2026 or early 2027, so register now if you want first notice.

Getting there

The track is in the eastern Park Lands, which have hosted motor racing since 1985, according to the organiser. Walking in from the CBD should work, but the final circuit plan is not out. The organiser says transport and parking details will come closer to the event, and it has confirmed dedicated motorcycle parking.

From Adelaide Airport: the J1 and J1X buses run into the city, about 22 minutes on the J1X, with fares reported at about A$2.60 to A$4.55 depending on the time of day. CBD stop names conflict between sources, so check before you ride.

If you are riding or driving from Melbourne or Sydney for the race, read our driving in Australia guide. Overseas visitors should sort entry through our Australia ETA guide.

Where to stay, ranked by time to the circuit

The ranking is our own judgement, based on time to the circuit, which we have taken from the old layout. All times here are our rough estimates, not timetable figures, so check them against the event map and the Adelaide Metro journey planner once the event plan is out.

1. East End, around Rundle Street. Roughly 5 to 10 minutes on foot, with the closest bars and food. The catch: closures, noise and likely the strongest demand in the city.

2. CBD core, North Terrace and Victoria Square. Roughly 15 to 20 minutes on foot. The most hotels, and the airport bus. The catch: it will be in demand for race week too.

3. Norwood and Kent Town. Roughly 15 to 20 minutes on foot from the east. Good dining on The Parade, on the opposite side of the track. The catch: access depends on where the track crossings are.

4. North Adelaide. Roughly 20 to 25 minutes on foot, with heritage pubs and quieter streets. The catch: a small choice of rooms.

5. Glenelg. Roughly 30 to 35 minutes by tram to the city, then a walk. A beach base. The catch: check last-tram times against the evening's schedule.

Catches and when to book

• This is a first-time event. Nobody has run it before, so crowd flows, closures and transit are all unknown. Book a refundable room as soon as you decide, and hold off on non-refundable flights until the date is confirmed.

• Rugby World Cup clash. The Rugby World Cup final is in Sydney on Saturday 13 November 2027, the day before the race, so flights between Australian cities that weekend could be tight. See our Rugby World Cup guide.

• Supercars. Organisers place the race before the Supercars finale on the same streets. The 2027 Supercars calendar is not out, so closures around the East End could run for weeks.

• Hotels. Adelaide is a smaller hotel market than Melbourne or Sydney, and we have no sourced rates for the event, so this is general advice: earlier is better.

• Weather. Mid-November can be hot, so bring sun protection. Our best time to visit Australia guide covers the seasons, and our Australian Grand Prix guide covers Melbourne's street-circuit race.
