April is one of the best months for a first trip to Turkey: mild, green and before the summer heat, with Istanbul at about 16.1°C (61°F) by day, Cappadocia at 16.3°C (61°F) and Pamukkale and the Aegean around 21°C (70°F). The trade-offs are cool nights inland, a sea that is still cold on the coast, and unsettled spells. Ramadan and its Bayram holiday are over before April in 2027, which is an extra reason to pick this month. We were in Turkey from 12 October to 14 November 2023, so we did not see April ourselves; weather numbers are 1991 to 2020 normals from the Turkish State Meteorological Service as listed for each city, and event dates are from the sources named in the text.
• Weather: comfortable for sightseeing; nights are cold in Cappadocia.
• Best for: Istanbul, Cappadocia, Pamukkale and Ephesus. Skip beach plans.
• Crowds: building. April is a popular month for Cappadocia and Istanbul, but not at summer levels.
• Holidays: 23 April is a public holiday; Ramadan 2027 (8 February to about 9 March) and Ramazan Bayramı (9 to 11 March) have passed, and Kurban Bayramı starts on 16 May.
• Flowers: the Istanbul Tulip Festival runs through April; Emirgan Park is the best known site.
• Skip April if: you need hot weather for the Mediterranean coast or want to be sure of warm nights.

Turkish State Meteorological Service 1991 to 2020 normals as listed for each city.
• Istanbul: highs 16.1°C (61°F), lows 8.1°C (47°F), about 45 mm of rain. Cool and breezy on the Bosphorus; bring a windproof layer.
• Cappadocia (Nevşehir): highs 16.3°C (61°F), lows 5.2°C (41°F), about 46 mm. Pleasant afternoons and cold mornings, so balloon dawns need a proper jacket.
• Pamukkale (Denizli): highs 21.3°C (70°F), lows 9.7°C (49°F), about 55 mm. Comfortable for the travertines before the heat.
• Aegean (İzmir, nearest station to Ephesus): highs 21.3°C (70°F), lows 11.8°C (53°F), about 50 mm.
• Mediterranean coast (Antalya): highs 21.8°C (71°F), lows 11.3°C (52°F), about 63 mm, and the sea only about 17.9°C (64°F). Beach holidays begin in May or June.
So April is a city-and-culture month. Cold nights in Cappadocia mean heated cave hotels matter; ask before booking.
• Istanbul Tulip Festival: tulips are planted across the city and bloom through April, with peak bloom commonly cited as early to mid April. Emirgan Park, on the Bosphorus in Sarıyer, is free to enter. Guides give opening times of roughly morning to 10pm, but I could not find an official 2027 programme, so check the municipality's announcements.
• 23 April (Friday): National Sovereignty and Children's Day, a public holiday. Government offices close, and the day can mean parades and busy family areas.
• Ramadan 2027 runs from about 8 February to 8 March according to Diyanet's calendar, with Ramazan Bayramı on about 9 to 11 March; see our Ramadan in Istanbul guide and Şeker Bayramı closures. Both are over by April.
• Kurban Bayramı (Eid al-Adha): 16 to 19 May 2027, with the half-day eve on 15 May. Book buses and flights early if your trip runs into mid May.
• 1 May is Labour Day, a public holiday.

We spent a month on this route in autumn 2023: 16 days in Istanbul over two stays, 4 in Ankara, 5 in Göreme, 3 in Pamukkale and 5 in Selçuk. The same sequence works in April.
• Istanbul: 3 to 4 days; walking is pleasant at 16°C. See 3 days in Istanbul, where to stay in Istanbul, what to eat in Istanbul and the airport transfer guide.
• Cappadocia: 3 nights for balloon backup mornings; see how many days in Cappadocia, the balloon cancellation guide and Istanbul to Cappadocia: flight vs night bus.
• Pamukkale and Ephesus: best in April, before the summer heat; see the Pamukkale guide and the Ephesus tickets guide.
