Seasonal travelAustralian Open 2027 runs 11–31 January at Melbourne Park, with Opening Week on 11–16 January and the main draw on 17–31 January. Melbourne is in summer: Bureau of Meteorology figures for Olympic Park give January an average high of 26.8°C and low of 16.5°C. We were in Melbourne 21–25 January 2023; that supports a first-hand city visit, not a claim that we attended the Australian Open. Dates and climate figures checked 21 October 2026.

The Olympic Park station’s January figures are 26.8°C mean maximum, 16.5°C mean minimum and 53.3 mm mean rainfall. The station began in 2013, so these are its available-record statistics, not a 30-year climate normal.
Use those figures to pack light daytime clothes plus an evening layer and rain protection. Check the actual forecast before committing to a long outdoor day. An average high is not an upper limit, and a monthly rain total does not tell you which afternoon will be wet.
• 11–16 January: Opening Week.
• 17–31 January: main draw.
• 30–31 January: singles finals.
The tournament’s dated announcement confirms these windows. Pick the kind of visit you want before choosing accommodation: an early look at the precinct, a main-draw day or finals weekend. A date alone does not guarantee you will see a particular player.
The official ticket FAQ directs buyers to the AO Ticketmaster site. Ticket prices can change with demand, so use the live ticket page rather than a price copied from an earlier tournament. Check the exact date, session, court access and seat details before buying.
Our suggested approach is to give the tennis a dedicated day or session and keep a separate day for central Melbourne. Avoid building a timed museum reservation or a long transfer immediately after a match you particularly want to finish watching.
For the city itself, start with our Melbourne guide, then choose a compact group of sights for each day. If tennis is not part of your trip, compare accommodation across your possible dates before committing; do not assume the whole of January has the same availability.
We would stay somewhere with a straightforward route back after an evening session and check current transport arrangements close to the event. This page does not promise a special shuttle, free transport entitlement or late service that has not been verified for 2027.
Our route records four nights in Melbourne in January 2023, followed by the Great Ocean Road. It establishes the season and stop, but it does not establish attendance at any tennis match. The photographs illustrate Melbourne on that trip.
For a wider journey, our winter route explains why we put southern Australia in January before New Zealand. Keep travel days separate from a fixed ticketed session, especially if arriving from overseas.
Before leaving, recheck the tournament’s entry rules and your ticket conditions. Pack for time outdoors, and decide in advance which belongings you need for the full session so you do not rely on being able to leave and re-enter.
The main draw begins on 17 January and ends on 31 January. Opening Week is 11–16 January.
It is summer. Olympic Park’s January average high is 26.8°C and average low 16.5°C; individual days can differ substantially.
This guide makes no claim of attendance. Our route records a Melbourne visit from 21 to 25 January 2023.
Entry rules change, and they depend on your nationality — always confirm the current requirements on the official government site before you book or apply. Only use official government (.gov) portals; ignore look-alike agency sites.
