Seasonal travelBy Clever Tourists · Published
July is one of the driest months in Bali, with sunshine, low humidity and about 30 mm of rain, but it is also peak season, so expect crowds and high prices. Denpasar averages about 24 to 29°C (75 to 84°F), with only 3 rain days and around 263 hours of sun. The trade-off is that European and Australian school holidays fill Ubud, Canggu and Seminyak, and traffic gets worse. We were in Bali from 19 May to 6 June 2023, at the start of the dry season, so the figures below are 1991 to 2020 climate normals, not the weather we had.

• Best for beaches and sunsets: west and south coast beaches, with strong winds on some stretches.
• Fewest crowds: none. For a quieter dry-season month, see best time to visit Bali: May, June and September.
• Cheapest: not July. Rates peak in July and August.
• Avoid: arriving without rooms booked for Ubud, Uluwatu and Canggu.

Typical July figures from 1991 to 2020 climate normals for Denpasar:
• Coast (Denpasar, Seminyak, Sanur): about 24 to 29°C (75 to 84°F), around 30 mm of rain over 3 rain days and 263 hours of sun.
• Highlands (Munduk, Kintamani, Ubud's hills): cooler than the coast, with higher rain than Denpasar. Ubud is wetter than the airport station, and some mornings start misty. Pack a light layer for Kintamani and Munduk.
• Sea: check the day's sea conditions before booking a boat to Nusa Penida or the Gilis, since operators cancel when it is rough.
July is also a windy month, which is why the island's kite season runs from about July to August. See our Bali packing list and what to wear in Bali for clothes.
• Bali Arts Festival: held at the Art Centre in Denpasar. In 2026 it ran 13 June to 11 July. The 2027 dates have not been announced; expect it to start mid June and run about a month, so it may overlap early July.
• Bali Kite Festival: held in the dry, windy season at Padang Galak in Sanur, usually July to August. Sources gave conflicting 2026 dates, so confirm with organisers.
• Galungan and Kuningan: in 2027 they fall on 13 and 23 January and 11 and 21 August, not July. See Galungan and Kuningan.

Our route covered Seminyak (19 to 22 May 2023), Munduk, Ubud, Kintamani, Sidemen and Padangbai. In July, highland stops are a way to escape coastal crowds, though Ubud itself is busy. See how many days in Ubud, where to stay in Ubud, how many days in Munduk and our Sidemen guide.
Sunrise at Mount Batur from Kintamani works best in dry months; see our Kintamani guide. Our 18-day Bali itinerary shows the route in full, and how many days in Bali helps you shorten it.
July and August are the highest-priced months in Bali apart from the Christmas fortnight. Book Ubud and Uluwatu rooms well ahead, expect queues at Tegallalang and Tanah Lot, and allow extra time for traffic between Seminyak, Canggu and Ubud.
Australian school holidays add a spike, mostly late June to mid-July. For a cheaper, quieter approach, aim for May, June or September. See how much does a trip to Bali cost and the Bali tourist tax and e-VOA process.

Book the Mount Batur sunrise trek and any Nusa Penida day trip a few days ahead in July, because operators fill up. Sunrise treks start in the dark, well before dawn, so ask your hotel in Ubud or Kintamani about pickup. In the dry season the views are clearer than in the wet months, and the mornings are cool enough that you will want a fleece or windbreaker at the top.
Traffic is the main daily cost of peak season. The roads between Seminyak, Canggu and Ubud are slow at any hour, and a 20 km trip can take over an hour. If you rent a scooter, read the scooter rental rules and police checkpoints guide first, and keep your licence and insurance in order. For entry rules, see the Bali tourist tax and e-VOA guide and things to know before visiting Bali.
If you want low prices, choose the wet season, but not Christmas. See Bali in December.
If you dislike crowds, go in May, June or September.
If you plan to ride a scooter, July traffic and police checkpoints are heavy; see the Bali scooter rental rules.
Yes for weather: it is dry, with about 30 mm of rain. It is also peak season, with higher prices and crowds.

Yes, July and August are the peak months, especially in Ubud, Canggu, Seminyak and Uluwatu.
