Attractions & day tripsA ticket for the Dubrovnik City Walls costs €40 for adults in the 2026 main season, €15 for ages 7 to 18, and children under 7 go free. The same ticket also gets you into Fort Lovrijenac. The walk is about 1.9 km one way round, counterclockwise, and takes 1.5 to 2 hours. In summer the walls open at 8am, and that first hour is the best time to go, before the heat and the cruise crowds. The 1-day Dubrovnik Pass is usually priced the same as a walls ticket and adds museums and buses.

The walls are run by the Society of Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities (DPDS), which uses ticket money to restore them. For the 2026 main season, ticket sellers and recent guides consistently quote:
• Adults: €40
• Children 7 to 18: €15
• Under 7: free
A cheaper winter rate applies from roughly November to February, but sources disagree on the exact amount (€15 or €20 for adults), so check the official webshop for your dates.
The walls ticket includes Fort Lovrijenac, the Western Outer Wall (closed December to February) and the Collection of Coins of the Republic of Ragusa. The ticket is good for one circuit only, with no re-entry, and the official site says tickets cannot be refunded. Buy from the official DPDS webshop or the ticket desks at the entrances. Third-party sites often add a booking fee on top of the €40.
The Dubrovnik Pass includes the walls plus several museums, such as the Rector's Palace and the Maritime Museum, and free rides on Libertas city buses. Most 2026 sources list it at €40 for 1 day, €50 for 3 days and €60 for 7 days, so the 1-day pass costs the same as a walls ticket alone. If you are walking the walls anyway, the pass is the better buy.
The pass is sold on the official Dubrovnik Pass website and at tourist offices. Prices have changed several times in recent years, so confirm before buying.
Hours as published for 2026 by guides that follow the official schedule:
• April: 8:00 to 18:30
• May: 8:00 to 19:00
• June 1 to August 5: 8:00 to 19:30
• August 6 to 31: 8:00 to 19:00
• September: 8:00 to 18:30 until the 14th, then to 18:00
• October: 8:00 to 17:30 until the 14th, then to 17:00
• November to March: 9:00 to 15:00
The walls open every day of the year except December 25. Closing time is the last entry, so in a queue arrive at least 10 to 15 minutes before it. Some sellers publish slightly different hours, so check the official site before a late visit.
There are three entrances:
• Pile Gate: the main one, on the left just inside the gate at the western end of the Stradun, and the busiest.
• St Luke's, near Ploče Gate: on the eastern side and usually the quietest.
• St John's Fortress: by the Old Port and the Maritime Museum.
The circuit is one way, counterclockwise, with checkpoints that stop you doubling back. It is about 1,940 m with many steep steps, and most people take 1.5 to 2 hours with photo stops. Minčeta Tower is the highest point, and the stretch above the Old Port gives the classic view over the rooftops. There are a few cafés and a toilet along the route, but no wheelchair access.
There is almost no shade. In July and August, start at 8am or come in the last two hours before closing, and bring water, a hat and sunscreen. Tour groups and cruise passengers usually reach the walls from about 10am. Dubrovnik caps big-ship calls at two a day, but check the Port of Dubrovnik schedule anyway; on days with two large ships, the walls and the Stradun are at their busiest from late morning to mid-afternoon.
Fort Lovrijenac stands on a 37 m rock just outside Pile Gate and is included in your walls ticket. Visit it the same day or within a few days (check the validity printed on your ticket). It is a good late-afternoon stop when the walls are crowded, with views back across the walled city.

About 1.5 to 2 hours for the roughly 1.9 km circuit, longer in the heat or with many photo stops.
Entry rules change, and they depend on your nationality — always confirm the current requirements on the official government site before you book or apply. Only use official government (.gov) portals; ignore look-alike agency sites.
