Corvin Castle (Hunedoara): Tickets, Opening Hours and How to Visit from DevaAttractions & day trips

How much are tickets to Corvin Castle in Hunedoara, what are the opening hours, and how do you get there from Deva?

By · Published

Corvin Castle (Castelul Corvinilor) in Hunedoara costs 55 lei for an adult ticket, with 30 lei for pensioners and 15 lei for students. The castle opens at 12:00 on Mondays and 09:00 Tuesday to Sunday, closing at 17:00 in winter (1 October to 31 March) and 20:00 in summer (1 April to 30 September). Last entry is 30 minutes before closing. Hunedoara is about 18 km from Deva, which is where we based ourselves for three days in October 2022.

Corvin Castle ticket prices in 2026

The standard ticket covers the castle museum, the Guilds' House (Casa Breslelor) and the archaeology display, so there is no need to buy the buildings separately. Rates as published for the 2026 season:

• Adults: 55 lei (roughly €11 (≈ $12.3))

• Pensioners: 30 lei

• Pupils and students: 15 lei, with a valid student card

Children and family reductions are handled at the ticket desk rather than advertised online, so carry ID for anyone claiming a concession. Cards are accepted at the desk, but a small amount of cash in lei is worth having for parking and the souvenir stalls below the castle.

Opening hours: the Monday problem

This is the detail that catches people out. Corvin Castle does not open at 09:00 seven days a week; on Mondays it opens at 12:00.

• 1 October to 31 March: Monday 12:00 to 17:00, Tuesday to Sunday 09:00 to 17:00

• 1 April to 30 September: Monday 12:00 to 20:00, Tuesday to Sunday 09:00 to 20:00

Ticket sales and entry stop 30 minutes before closing. If you are fitting the castle into a travel day, plan the rest of the itinerary around the noon Monday opening rather than assuming a morning start.

Getting from Deva to Hunedoara

The castle is in Hunedoara, not Deva. It is a short hop, but not a walk: roughly 18 km, or 20 to 25 minutes by road. Local buses run between the two towns through the day, and a taxi or ride-hailing app is inexpensive for the distance and gives you a fixed drop-off at the castle gate.

We stayed in Deva and treated Corvin as a half-day trip. The advantage of that base is that Deva itself has the fortress hill above town, so you can do one in the morning and the other in the afternoon without moving hotels. If you are coming by train, Deva sits on the main line and is the practical station for this stretch of Transylvania.

Parking near the castle fills up on weekends and in summer; the approach road narrows and the lots closest to the entrance are small. Arriving at opening time is the simplest fix.

What to expect inside

Corvin is a Gothic-Renaissance castle built on a rock above the Zlaști river, with a drawbridge approach, a long timbered gallery, and the towers and courtyards that make it one of the most photogenic buildings in Romania. The interior is largely a museum: furnished rooms, armaments, and displays on the Hunyadi family.

Allow 1.5 to 2 hours for the castle itself, more if you photograph seriously. The courtyards and the bridge are the strongest images; the interior rooms are darker and busier, so shoot those early before tour groups arrive.

The castle has been under long-running restoration, and individual halls can be closed without much notice. That is normal here rather than a sign something is wrong; the ticket office can tell you which sections are open that day.
