Where should I stay for Wimbledon 2027?

By · Published · Last updated

Wimbledon 2027 runs from 28 June to 11 July, according to wimbledon.com and the ATP calendar. For the shortest trip, stay in Southfields, a 15 to 20 minute walk from the All England Club on the District line. If there are few rooms there, try Putney, or Earl's Court for a wider choice at normal London prices. The hotel search above opens on the final weekend, Friday 9 to Monday 12 July 2027. We were in London from 14 to 21 November 2023 and on 2 to 3 December 2023; that record shows the city and the dates, so the tournament detail below comes from the sources named in each section.

The Championships: dates and the anniversary

Official dates: Monday 28 June to Sunday 11 July 2027, from the wimbledon.com ballot page and the ATP calendar. The wimbledon.com page was read from a search snippet, because the site itself would not load for us.

The All England Club has described 2027 as the 150th anniversary of the first Championships in 1877, in a 2025 announcement on wimbledon.com. The number counts years since that first tournament. We expect the anniversary to raise demand, but that is our inference, and we have no sourced figures to back it.

Tickets for 2027: what is still open

The Public Ballot for 2027 is closed. The official help centre gives its window as 1 September to 23:59 BST on 14 September 2026, and says offers go out by email from October 2026. The LTA ballot closed on 31 August 2026, with successful entrants told between September and November. Ballot winners get an assigned court and day, with no choice of either. One press report puts the success rate at about 1 in 10. The ballot for 2028 is expected in early September 2027 on past pattern, but it has not been announced.

The Queue is the main remaining route. These details come from a third-party guide, London Travel Geek, which attributes them to the club, so confirm them on wimbledon.com. The Queue opens at 2pm on the Sunday before Day 1, which would be 27 June 2027 if the pattern holds. Wristbands start at 7.30am and gates open at 10am. Each day has 500 tickets for Centre Court (first 10 days), 500 for No.1 Court (every day) and 500 for No.2 Court (first 10 days), plus several thousand Grounds Passes, which the same guide says are Queue-only.

On-site resale runs from 3pm through the app. In 2026 it cost £15 (≈ $20) for Centre Court and £10 (≈ $13.4) for No.1 and No.2, according to the same guide. The 2027 price is unpublished.

Hospitality: Keith Prowse is the official provider, per the Wimbledon help centre. Debentures are the only seats that can legally be resold. Revista Mercado reported men's final debentures from £9,495 (≈ $12,709) on the official market.

Wimbledon uses fixed prices, with no dynamic pricing. The official 2027 price page would not load for us, so the table below uses secondary sources. Check wimbledon.com before relying on any figure.

Getting to the All England Club

• Southfields (District line, Wimbledon branch): the closest station for most people, about a 15 to 20 minute walk, per Country & Town House and Pixidia.

• Wimbledon Park (District line): about 5 minutes from the Queue and about 25 minutes from the club, though sources differ on the walk.

• Wimbledon station (District line, South Western Railway, Thameslink, Tramlink): a 20 to 27 minute walk, mostly uphill through the Village, or a paid shuttle. Bus 493 links Wimbledon and Southfields to Gate 4, according to the same third-party guides. The official travel page was empty when we tried it, so check shuttle prices and hours there.

• From Heathrow: roughly 70 to 80 minutes on the Piccadilly line to Earl's Court, then the District line to Southfields. That is our estimate; see also Heathrow to the city.

• From Gatwick: roughly 45 to 60 minutes by rail to Wimbledon via Clapham Junction or on Thameslink, also our estimate.

Contactless works across all of this; our Oyster vs contactless guide explains the choice.

Where to stay, ranked by travel time to the club

The ranking is our judgement, based on time to the venue. Walks from Southfields and Wimbledon are sourced above; every time written as roughly is our own estimate, so check it in a journey planner for your exact address and session.

1. Southfields (15 to 20 minute walk). You can walk to the gates and catch the first trains to the Queue. The catch: it is mostly residential, with few hotels, so most options are short lets.

2. Wimbledon Village and Wimbledon town (20 to 27 minute walk). Pubs, restaurants and the classic tournament atmosphere. The catch: a small stock of hotels, and the walk from the station is uphill.

3. Putney and East Putney (roughly 20 to 30 minutes). One or two stops on the District line, with river pubs and more rooms to choose from. The catch: District trains are packed after play.

4. Earl's Court and West Brompton (roughly 35 to 40 minutes). Direct on the District line, with a wide range of hotels at normal London prices. The catch: you still walk 15 to 20 minutes from Southfields.

5. Waterloo and the South Bank (roughly 40 to 45 minutes). Fast rail to Wimbledon, and central for sightseeing on your other days. The catch: a shuttle or uphill walk at the far end.

For a longer stay, our where to stay in London guide compares areas for a normal trip. Staying on the District line also works if you add Queen's Club, which ends on 20 June.

When to book

We have no sourced hotel prices for Wimbledon 2027. The one data point we found is an undated trivago index showing hotels next to Wimbledon up 70% during the tournament, against 9% for London overall. It suggests the premium sits close to the venue, which is the argument for Earl's Court or the South Bank if prices near SW19 look high.

If you are hoping to get in through the Queue rather than holding tickets, a free-cancellation room in Southfields or Putney gives you the most flexibility. Visitors from abroad should check entry rules well ahead in our UK visa guide.
