Where to Stay for the 2027 Turkish Grand Prix: Kurtköy, Pendik, Kadıköy or the European Side?Destinations & Itineraries

Where should I stay for the Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park?

By · Published · Last updated

Stay on the Asian side. Istanbul Park is in Tuzla, on the far eastern edge of the city near Sabiha Gökçen airport, so Kurtköy and Pendik are closest and Kadıköy is the best mix of commute and evenings. Sultanahmet and Beyoğlu, where most visitors stay, put the Bosphorus and the city's traffic between you and the track. Formula 1 returns to Turkey for the first time since 2021 on Friday 1 to Sunday 3 October 2027, according to Formula 1's 2027 calendar. We spent 15 days in Istanbul in October 2023, the same season as the race but not for any race, so the race details below come from Formula 1 and the operators; the 2027 transport plan had not been published when we checked.

Race dates and where Istanbul Park is

Formula 1 announced on 24 April 2026 that the Turkish Grand Prix returns from 2027 under a five-year agreement with Türkiye's Ministry of Youth and Sports, running to 2031, with the Turkish Automobile Sports Federation (TOSFED) as delivery partner. The 2027 calendar puts it at round 17, 1 to 3 October, between Azerbaijan and Singapore.

Turkey has hosted nine Grands Prix at Istanbul Park: seven from 2005 to 2011, then 2020 and 2021. The 2020 race was held behind closed doors, so there is only one recent race weekend with fans to go on.

The circuit sits at the boundary of the Tuzla and Pendik districts on the Asian side, near the Kurtköy junction of the O-4 motorway and close to Sabiha Gökçen airport. It is surrounded by forest and fields, not city streets, and holds about 125,000 spectators, mostly on grass banks and temporary stands, according to its Wikipedia entry.

Transport for 2027: neither Formula 1 nor TOSFED had published shuttle, rail or parking arrangements when we checked in October 2026. No metro line reaches the gate. The nearest rail is the M4 metro, which runs 33.5 km from Kadıköy to Sabiha Gökçen airport; its extension to the airport, including Kurtköy station, opened on 2 October 2022, and Railway Gazette puts the full ride at about 50 minutes. Expect the final leg from M4 or the airport to be a shuttle or taxi, and update your plan once the organisers publish theirs.

Where to stay, ranked by distance to the circuit

1. Kurtköy. The district around the motorway junction nearest the circuit and one stop from the airport on the M4. Mostly airport and business hotels plus serviced apartments. It is the shortest final leg to Istanbul Park and the easiest place to arrive at if you fly into Sabiha Gökçen. Price level: moderate. The catch: there is nothing to do here in the evening, and you are an hour from old Istanbul.

2. Pendik. The coastal district south of Kurtköy, with a marina, seafront hotels and a high-speed train station. It is on the Marmaray suburban rail line along the Asian shore, which runs under the Bosphorus to the European side, so it works for a split trip. The M10 metro, planned to link Pendik with Sabiha Gökçen, was listed by Wikipedia as due to open in 2027 when we checked; do not count on it. The catch: road access from the coast up to the circuit is the part you will rely on taxis or shuttles for.

3. Kadıköy. The Asian side's lively centre, with ferries to Eminönü and Karaköy, the Moda waterfront and some of the city's best food streets. It is the western end of the M4, so you can ride the whole line to Kurtköy. Price level: mid-range. The catch: about 50 minutes on the metro to the airport end before the last leg, more with crowds. Our where to stay in Istanbul guide covers Kadıköy alongside the European-side areas.

4. Beyoğlu, Karaköy or Sultanahmet (European side). Where most first-time visitors stay, and the right choice if the race is part of a longer Istanbul trip. The catch is the commute: you cross the Bosphorus by Marmaray, ferry or bridge before you even start the trip east, and race-day traffic on the Asian side will be heavy. Consider moving across for the race weekend and staying on the European side before or after.

When to book

On 29 October 2026, Formula 1's ticketing site listed the Turkish Grand Prix on a waitlist for general admission and grandstand tickets, with no public on-sale date or prices yet. Join it through formula1.com rather than buying from resellers advertising packages before tickets exist.

We found no data on hotel sell-outs for this race, so this is general advice: the Asian-side hotels near the circuit are few compared with the European side, so book a free-cancellation rate near Kurtköy, Pendik or Kadıköy as soon as you commit, and adjust once transport is announced.

Race-day logistics

Fly into Sabiha Gökçen if you can. It is the airport next to the circuit, on the Asian side. Istanbul Airport is on the far European side; our Istanbul airport guide covers getting into the city from there.

Use an Istanbulkart for the metro, Marmaray and ferries, and expect to finish the trip by shuttle or taxi until the organisers say otherwise.

Allow for traffic. The circuit sits beside two motorways and an airport, and a sold-out weekend will load all of them. Leave early on Sunday and do not book a same-evening flight.

Evenings. Kadıköy's restaurants are the easy option from the Asian side; see what to eat in Istanbul. For the rest of the trip, our Istanbul and Cappadocia guide and is Turkey safe to visit cover the basics.
