The fastest way from Hoi An to Da Lat is to fly from Da Nang to Lien Khuong airport: about 1 hour 10 minutes in the air, with one-way fares commonly around US$90 to US$105, and about 4 to 5 hours door to door. The cheapest is the overnight sleeper bus: roughly 12 to 14 hours, from about US$15 to US$30 for a standard berth and up to about US$54 for a cabin coach. There is no direct train. Da Lat sits at about 1,500 m in the Central Highlands, off the coastal railway, and its own line is only a short tourist run. We were in Hoi An from 29 April to 5 May 2023, then in Da Lat from 5 to 10 May before Nha Trang.

Hoi An has no airport. Use Da Nang International Airport (DAD), about 30 km north, roughly 40 to 50 minutes by Grab or taxi. Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air fly to Lien Khuong International Airport (DLI), and the flight takes about 1 hour 5 to 10 minutes.
Fare snapshots on search engines in 2026 show one-way prices from roughly US$90 to US$105, higher than most Vietnamese domestic routes because there are only a few flights a day; compare both airlines' own sites for your date. Book a week or more ahead around holidays.
Lien Khuong is about 30 km south of central Da Lat, roughly 40 minutes by road. Airport shuttle buses meet flights and drop in the centre, and Grab and taxis work too. All in, leaving Hoi An at breakfast puts you in Da Lat for lunch.

Sleeper buses run overnight from Hoi An, most with hotel or office pickup in the late afternoon or evening, and reach Da Lat early next morning. 12Go listings from spring 2026 show departures taking roughly 12 to 14 hours for about US$15 to US$28. A route guide breaks prices into bands: about US$21 to US$29 for standard 32 to 34-berth sleepers, US$28 to US$40 for VIP 20 to 24-berth buses and US$35 to US$54 for cabin-style coaches with curtained pods.
Operators come and go; book through 12Go, Vexere or your hotel, and read recent reviews for the specific company. Some services are not direct and change buses in Nha Trang or another coastal town in the night, so check whether a transfer is included.
The last stretch climbs from the coast into the highlands on winding mountain roads. If you get motion sick, choose a lower berth near the front and take tablets before the climb. Berths are short for tall travellers, and Da Lat is cool at night all year, so keep a warm layer out of your big bag.
Buses usually finish at an operator office or the long-distance bus station south of Xuan Huong Lake, a short Grab ride from the centre. Arriving around dawn, you will likely need to leave bags at your hotel until check-in, so plan a slow first morning at the market or the lake rather than a full itinerary.
You can ride the Reunification Express south from Da Nang Station to Nha Trang and continue by bus or limousine van up to Da Lat. It takes most of a day or a night plus a morning and costs more than the direct sleeper bus, so it only makes sense if you want the coastal railway or want to stop in Nha Trang first. Our Reunification Express guide covers booking on the official Vietnam Railways site.
Da Lat's own railway station is a heritage building that runs a short tourist train to Trai Mat; it is not connected to the main line.

A private driver is possible but it is a long day of 600 km or more on the road. Unless you are a group splitting the cost, the flight is cheaper per person and much faster. If you hire a car, settle the price, tolls and the drop-off address in writing before you leave.
• Short trip: fly, and you keep a full day.
• Tight budget: sleeper bus, which also saves a night's accommodation.
• Heading to the beach as well: consider doing the coast in the other order, Hoi An to Nha Trang then up to Da Lat, or the reverse.
Our route went Hoi An (6 nights, including a day trip to My Son), then Da Lat (5 nights), then down to Nha Trang. That order works because Da Lat to Nha Trang is a short trip down the mountain, see Da Lat to Nha Trang. Before you go, collect any tailored clothes in Hoi An in time, and read our Da Lat guide, Hoi An guide and how many days in Da Lat.

No. Hoi An has no station and Da Lat is not on the main line. The nearest rail option is Da Nang to Nha Trang on the Reunification Express, then a bus up to Da Lat.
About 12 to 14 hours overnight, from roughly US$15 to US$30 for a standard berth and up to about US$54 for a cabin coach.
Go to Da Nang airport, about 40 to 50 minutes away, and fly to Lien Khuong with Vietnam Airlines or VietJet Air. The flight takes about 1 hour 10 minutes and the airport is about 30 km from central Da Lat.
