For 10 days in South Korea, we suggest **Seoul (3 nights), Gyeongju (2), Busan (3) and Jeju (2)**, flying back to Seoul from Jeju at the end. Without Jeju, give the two nights to Seoul and Busan. It is our suggested cut of the 32-day route we took in 2023, when we spent 10 days in Seoul, 3 in Gyeongju, 4 in Busan and 6 on Jeju; here each stop is trimmed to its core, and the slow legs are gone. Below is the day-by-day plan, the trains and flights between, and when to swap Gyeongju for Jeonju.

## The plan at a glance

• **Days 1–3, Seoul:** palaces and Bukchon, Insadong and Namsan, Hongdae and the Han River.

• **Day 4, KTX to Gyeongju:** about 2 hours from Seoul to Gyeongju Station, then the tomb park and Cheomseongdae in the afternoon.

• **Day 5, Gyeongju:** Bulguksa and Seokguram in the morning, Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond at dusk.

• **Day 6, KTX to Busan:** about 30 minutes, then Jagalchi, Nampo and Gamcheon.

• **Days 7–8, Busan:** Haeundae and Gwangalli one day, Yeongdo or Haedong Yonggungsa the next.

• **Days 9–10, Jeju:** fly from Busan, one day on the east side (Seongsan Ilchulbong) and one on the south coast, then fly to Seoul for your flight home.

This follows the shape of our real route (Seoul, the south, Busan, Jeju, back via Gyeongju) but runs the two southern history and coast stops in the order the KTX line suggests.

## Days 1–3: Seoul

**Day 1:** Gyeongbokgung at the 9:00 opening (closed Tuesdays; 3,000 won, free in a hanbok), the guard ceremony at 10:00, then Bukchon's hanok lanes and Samcheong-dong. Our [Gyeongbokgung guide](https://clevertourists.com/resources/gyeongbokgung-palace-hanbok-free-entry-tickets-guide) has the hours.

**Day 2:** Insadong in the morning, Changdeokgung if you can get a Secret Garden slot, and Namsan for sunset from N Seoul Tower.

**Day 3:** Hongdae after dark and the Han River parks, or a market day at Gwangjang and Myeongdong. Our [3 days in Seoul](https://clevertourists.com/guides/3-days-in-seoul) itinerary sets out each day, and [how many days in Seoul](https://clevertourists.com/resources/how-many-days-in-seoul) covers what to add with more time.

From Incheon, the AREX All-Stop train reaches Seoul Station in about an hour for under 5,500 won; see our [Incheon airport guide](https://clevertourists.com/resources/incheon-airport-to-seoul-arex-vs-airport-limousine-bus-guide).

## Days 4–5: Gyeongju

Gyeongju was the capital of the Silla kingdom for close to a thousand years, and its sights sit on two UNESCO lists: **Bulguksa temple and Seokguram grotto** (1995) and the **Gyeongju Historic Areas** (2000), which include the grass-covered royal tombs of Daereungwon, the Cheomseongdae observatory and Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond.

Bulguksa and Seokguram have been **free to enter since 4 May 2023**, when Korea began covering the heritage admission fees at 65 temples. They are outside the center, so give them the morning of day 5 by bus or taxi, and keep the central tomb park for the afternoon you arrive. Wolji Pond is best after dark, when the rebuilt pavilions are lit. We spent 3 days in Gyeongju; two nights covers the main sites.

KTX trains run from Seoul and Suseo to **Gyeongju Station** (formerly Singyeongju), which is outside the old town, so allow a bus or taxi into the center. Book on the Korail+ app; since the **1 September 2026** KTX–SRT merger, all high-speed trains are sold there.

## Days 6–8: Busan

The KTX from Gyeongju to Busan Station takes about 30 minutes. Base yourself in Nampo or Seomyeon, and do **Jagalchi, the Nampo markets and Gamcheon** on the arrival afternoon.

**Day 7:** Haeundae in the morning, the Dongbaek coastal walk, and Gwangalli for the lit-up Gwangan Bridge after dark. **Day 8:** Yeongdo's Huinnyeoul lanes, or the seaside temple of **Haedong Yonggungsa** (free, opens 4:30am); our [Haedong Yonggungsa guide](https://clevertourists.com/resources/haedong-yonggungsa-temple-busan-how-to-get-there-guide) has the buses. For a forest temple instead, see [Beomeosa](https://clevertourists.com/resources/beomeosa-temple-busan-how-to-get-there-guide).

Our [4 days in Busan](https://clevertourists.com/guides/4-days-in-busan) itinerary groups the city by area; its main rule is not to put Haedong Yonggungsa, Gamcheon and Haeundae in the same day.

## Days 9–10: Jeju, or two more days on the mainland

Flights from Busan's Gimhae airport to Jeju take around an hour. Spend the first day on the east side, **Seongsan Ilchulbong** (5,000 won) and the coast road, and the second on the south coast around Seogwipo and Jeongbang Falls. Our [Jeju highlights guide](https://clevertourists.com/resources/jeju-highlights-seongsan-ilchulbong-coastal-route-guide) and [Seogwipo guide](https://clevertourists.com/guides/seogwipo) cover both, and [Jeju without a car](https://clevertourists.com/resources/jeju-without-a-car-bus-taxi-getting-around-guide) explains the buses. Then fly Jeju–Gimpo, the busiest air route in the world, and continue to Incheon for your flight home.

Two days on Jeju is tight; we spent six. **Skip Jeju** if your trip is in late June or July, when the rainy season usually reaches the island first, or if you would rather not add two flights. In that case add a night to Busan and end with a night in Seoul, taking the KTX back (about 2 hours 15 minutes on the fastest trains, about 54,400 won).

## Gyeongju or Jeonju?

**Jeonju** has the largest hanok village in Korea, more than 700 traditional houses, and is a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, the home of Jeonju bibimbap; see the Jeonju section of our [South Korea guide](https://clevertourists.com/guides/south-korea). We spent 3 days there.

The catch is geography. Jeonju is on the western Honam and Jeolla lines, about 1.5 to 2 hours from Seoul by KTX, while Busan is on the eastern line, and there is no fast direct train between Jeonju and Busan. Gyeongju sits on the way to Busan. So on a 10-day loop, **Gyeongju fits better**. Pick Jeonju if you are skipping Busan, or swap it for two Seoul nights as an out-and-back from Seoul.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is 10 days enough for South Korea?

Ten days covers Seoul, Gyeongju and Busan, with two days on Jeju if you are willing to add two short flights. We suggest Seoul 3 nights, Gyeongju 2, Busan 3 and Jeju 2.

### How should I split 10 days between Seoul and Busan?

Without Jeju or Gyeongju, about 5 nights in Seoul and 4 in Busan, with the KTX between them (about 2 hours 15 minutes). With Gyeongju and Jeju, 3 nights in Seoul and 3 in Busan.

### Is Gyeongju worth it?

Yes, if history interests you. Bulguksa, Seokguram and the Gyeongju Historic Areas are UNESCO-listed, Bulguksa and Seokguram have been free since May 2023, and Gyeongju is only about 30 minutes from Busan by KTX.

### Should I include Jeju in a 10-day Korea trip?

Only if you want two days of coast and volcano scenery and don't mind two short flights. Skip it in late June and July, when the rainy season usually reaches Jeju first, and give the days to Seoul and Busan.

### Can you do Jeonju and Busan on the same trip?

Yes, but there is no fast direct train between them, so it costs most of a travel day. Gyeongju fits a 10-day Seoul–Busan route better because it is on the way.
