The KTX bullet train from Seoul to Busan takes about 2 hours 15 minutes on the fastest services and costs about 54,400 won for a standard seat, down from 59,800 won after Korea merged its KTX and SRT high-speed networks on September 1, 2026. Trains leave from Seoul Station and Yongsan in central Seoul and from Suseo Station south of the river, and all of them are now booked in one place: the Korail+ app or korail.com. Here is which station to use, how to book as a foreigner, whether the Korail Pass is worth it and how to get from Busan Station to Haeundae.

## KTX vs SRT: what changed in 2026

Until August 2026 Korea had two competing high-speed operators: **KTX** (run by Korail, mainly from Seoul Station) and **SRT** (run by SR, from Suseo Station in southern Seoul). On **September 1, 2026** the two were merged under Korail. The former SRT trains now run under the KTX name (branded **KTX-Sancheon**) on the same tracks, and both networks are sold through one booking system.

Korail cut KTX fares by an **average of about 10%** to match the lower SRT price level, and the extra trains added at the same time mean more seats at peak times. The merger was still settling in autumn 2026, so routings and individual fares can shift; always confirm on the booking screen.

## Seoul Station or Suseo: which one should you use?

**Seoul Station** is the main terminal, on subway Lines 1 and 4 and the airport railroad from Incheon, and has the most departures to Busan. It suits stays in Myeongdong, Jongno, Hongdae or anywhere north of the Han River. Some trains also start at **Yongsan**.

**Suseo Station** is on subway Line 3 and the Suin-Bundang line in southeastern Seoul, so it is the easier choice if you are staying in Gangnam or Jamsil. Weekday services from Suseo rose from 122 to 132 a day after the merger. Some Suseo trains run via other stops and take longer, so compare journey times, not just departure times.

## Seoul to Busan train time and ticket prices

The fastest KTX services take about **2 hours 15 minutes**; trains with more intermediate stops take closer to **3 hours**. Every train ends at **Busan Station**, in the city center near Nampo and Choryang.

As of September 2026 a standard-class seat from Seoul Station to Busan costs about **54,400 won** one way (it was 59,800 won before the merger). First class costs more and has wider 2+1 seating. A return in standard class comes to about 108,800 won. Fares can differ slightly by train and station, so treat these as a guide and check the price when you book.

## How to book KTX tickets as a foreigner

Book on the **Korail+ app** (which replaced Korail Talk and the SRT app in August 2026) or the English booking pages on **korail.com**. Both sell former SRT trains from Suseo as well as KTX trains from Seoul Station, and foreign cards are generally accepted. Tickets are issued in your name, so carry your passport on board.

Seats have traditionally gone on sale about **one month ahead**, and Korail announced an extension to around two months from October 2026; check the app for the current window. Ordinary weekdays rarely sell out, but Friday evenings, Sunday afternoons and holidays such as Chuseok and Lunar New Year can sell out fast. If reserved seats are gone, standing or unreserved tickets are sometimes offered as a fallback.

## Is the Korail Pass worth it for Seoul to Busan?

The **Korail Pass** is a foreigner-only rail pass for unlimited travel on Korail trains for a set number of days. Reseller listings in 2026 put the adult **2-day Select pass at about 131,000 won**, with 3-, 4- and 5-day options costing more. A Seoul–Busan return at the post-merger fare is about 108,800 won, so the pass **does not pay for itself on a simple round trip**. It only makes sense if you add more long rides, such as Gyeongju, Jeonju or Gangneung, within the pass window.

Before September 2026 the pass did **not** cover SRT trains from Suseo, and as of autumn 2026 Korail had not clearly confirmed whether it now covers the former SRT services. If you plan to use one, check with Korail before relying on it for Suseo departures, and buy it from korail.com or an authorized seller rather than a look-alike site.

## Luggage on the KTX and getting from Busan Station to Haeundae

There is no checked baggage on the KTX. Small bags go on the racks above the seats and large suitcases in the space at the end of each carriage, which fills up first, so board a few minutes early if you have a big case.

**Busan Station** is on Busan Metro **Line 1**. To reach **Haeundae**, ride Line 1 to **Seomyeon** and change to **Line 2**; allow about 45 to 60 minutes door to door. A **taxi** from the rank outside the station takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic and is the easier option with heavy luggage or a group. A T-money card works on Busan's metro and buses, as our [South Korea T-money and subway guide](https://clevertourists.com/resources/south-korea-transit-t-money-card-subway-guide) explains.
