**A 12-day trip to Albania costs roughly $360 to $600 per person on the ground on a budget and $720 to $1,320 mid-range, plus the flight.** That is about $30 to $50 a day budget and $60 to $110 mid-range, the same bands as our [daily travel budget by country](https://clevertourists.com/resources/daily-travel-budget-by-country). It is the cheapest country on our European route, with one exception: the Riviera in high summer. We spent 31 days in Albania from 11 September to 12 October 2023: Shkoder, Theth, Tirana, Korce, Permet, Gjirokaster, Sarande, Ksamil and Berat, with a second stay in Tirana, so the route below follows ground we covered. Albania uses the lek (about 81 ALL to the dollar in late October 2026) and is outside the EU and Schengen. The figures are typical 2026 prices from operators and travel-cost sources, not what we spent.

## Albania trip cost at a glance (12 days, per person)

The totals assume 12 days on the ground, per person, with two people splitting a room at mid-range. Daily bands are the same as our [daily travel budget by country](https://clevertourists.com/resources/daily-travel-budget-by-country): $30 to $50 budget and $60 to $110 mid-range.

• **Budget: about $360 to $600 on the ground**, split roughly as accommodation $130 to $210; food and drink $110 to $180; getting around $50 to $90; sights and activities $40 to $70; extras (SIM, tips, fees) $30 to $50. Dorm beds or guesthouse rooms, bakery byrek, furgons and few paid sights.

• **Mid-range: about $720 to $1,320 on the ground**, split roughly as accommodation $320 to $590; food and drink $180 to $330; getting around $90 to $160; sights and activities $90 to $160; extras (SIM, tips, fees) $40 to $80. Hotels or boutique guesthouses in Tirana, Berat and Gjirokaster, restaurant dinners and a few days of car hire.

• **With a return flight from the US** ($577 to $786 in our fare snapshot): budget about $950 to $1,400, mid-range about $1,300 to $2,100.

The category split is our own approximation of how a daily band divides, not a measured spend. Tirana dorm beds averaged about $11 to $17 a night in the guides behind our calculator, although our earlier notes quote roughly €8 to €15 (≈ $8.9–16.7) for dorms elsewhere in the country, so expect a range.

## Flights: Tirana is the gateway, and Europe is very cheap

Our site's fare snapshot, taken from travellers' searches around 30 October 2026, shows Albania round trips averaging about $703 from the US (middle half $577 to $786), and in Europe about $76 from the UK, $85 from Italy, $92 from Spain, $128 from France and $163 from Germany. The snapshot leans low because it records fares travellers actually found, so use it as a floor. Albania is the cheap-flight destination of the Balkans from the UK and Italy. For timing see [how far in advance to book international flights](https://clevertourists.com/resources/how-far-in-advance-to-book-international-flights).

From Tirana airport, the airport bus costs 400 lek one way and runs hourly around the clock, while an official taxi is quoted at about 2,200 to 2,500 lek; see the [Tirana airport transfer guide](https://clevertourists.com/resources/tirana-airport-to-city-center-bus-taxi-guide).

## Accommodation: cheap everywhere except the south coast in summer

Tirana, Berat, Gjirokaster and Korce are the cheaper bases. The exceptions are Ksamil and Sarande in July and August, when beach clubs and lodging jump; see [how many days in Theth](https://clevertourists.com/resources/how-many-days-in-theth) and our [Albania itinerary](https://clevertourists.com/resources/albania-itinerary-2-weeks-theth-tirana-riviera-berat).

Cash is still common in guesthouses, which brings us to money.

## Transport: furgons, buses and cash

Furgons (shared minibuses) and buses are the budget transport. Shkoder to Tirana takes under 2 hours for about 1,000 to 1,300 lek (€10 to €13 (≈ $11.2–14.5)), paid in cash, and the one-way furgon to Theth is approximately €10 to €12 (≈ $11.2–13.4) (1,000 to 1,200 lek); see [how to get to Theth](https://clevertourists.com/resources/how-to-get-to-theth-albania-road-conditions-and-furgons) and [Kotor to Tirana](https://clevertourists.com/resources/kotor-to-tirana-bus-shkoder-border-guide) for the border route. Travel sites list Tirana to Berat by bus at roughly 600 to 700 lek, but older guides quote less, so confirm at the terminal.

A rental car makes the Riviera, Gjirokaster and the mountains easier but is the larger cost, and roads vary; read [driving in Albania](https://clevertourists.com/resources/driving-in-albania-tourist-guide) and the [Balkan border driving guide](https://clevertourists.com/resources/driving-across-balkan-borders-croatia-montenegro-albania).

## Food, sights and small extras

Food is the bargain: byrek bakeries, grills and guesthouse dinners keep a budget day very low; see [what to buy at a grocery store in Albania](https://clevertourists.com/resources/what-to-buy-at-a-grocery-store-in-albania). Tipping is modest, and cash is expected: see [tipping in Albania](https://clevertourists.com/resources/tipping-in-albania-cash-lek-restaurant-etiquette-guide).

ATMs are the hidden cost. Foreign debit cards at Albanian ATMs often face operator fees of about 700 to 1,000 lek (roughly $7 to $11) per transaction regardless of the amount withdrawn, so withdraw larger amounts less often; the details are in the [Albania cash and ATM guide](https://clevertourists.com/resources/albania-cash-culture-atms-and-tipping-rules). Sights are cheap. A 2026 travel guide lists Berat Castle at 300 lek in cash at the main gate, but enforcement varies, and we could not confirm other site prices, so treat entries as small.

Albania is outside EU roaming, so UK and EU plans may not cover it: see the [Albania eSIM guide](https://clevertourists.com/resources/albania-esim-for-tourists). Check safety and rules in [is Albania safe to visit](https://clevertourists.com/resources/is-albania-safe-to-visit-tourist-guide), and price [travel insurance](https://clevertourists.com/resources/travel-insurance-for-international-trips).

## How to bring the total down

• **Skip August on the Riviera.** Late June and September give warm water at far lower prices.

• **Withdraw less often, in larger amounts.** The per-transaction ATM fee is the same.

• **Use furgons** for short hops and a rental car only where it saves a day.

• **Fly cheap from Europe.** If you are already in Europe, Tirana fares can be among the lowest on the continent.

• **Stay inland.** Our route spent 4 nights and then 5 in Tirana and shorter stays in Berat, Gjirokaster and Korce. See [things to know before visiting Albania](https://clevertourists.com/resources/things-to-know-before-visiting-albania).
